Maryland Seafood

Maryland is known for its excellent local seafood. Parts of Maryland encompass much of the the Chespeake Bay and part of the Atlantic coast. From the Chespeake comes steamed blue crabs, soft shelled crabs, oysters, mano clams, hard clams, and other delicacies. Finfish include "rockfish" (striped bass), yellow perch, white perch, gray trout, red and black drum, spot, croakers, flounder, bluefish and others.
On the ocean side, commercial operations land lobsters, blue crabs, hard clams, surf clams, quahog clams, oysters, sea scallops, flounder, sea bass, cod, whiting, red hake, gray trout, croakers, striped bass, bluefish, tuna, sharks and more.
Maryland is also known for having excellent seafood festivals. One of the more famous seafood events is the annual J.Millard Tawes Seafood Festival. The festival is held in mid July and features a mix of Maryland seafood including steamed crabs, clams, fish and other foods. The event is a favorite among seafood lovers, local watermen, politicians and festival lovers.
