The total value of South Carolina seafood in 2006 was approximately 17 million dollars. The most valuable species included shrimp, blue crabs, groupers, snappers, clams and oysters.

South Carolina harvested over 3 million pounds of shrimp in 2006, valued at more than 6 million dollars, making it the most valuable wild caught species. Shrimpers harvest white and brown shrimp at various times of the fishing season. Shrimp ranks number one in volume among seafood's consumed in the United States.
